Transform communities.

MEND walks with women who have been marginalized and oppressed, denied education, their rights, and their roles, as they identify their strengths, discover their potential, and give their gifts back to the very communities that once hindered them.

Our
Mission

MEND exists to transform our community by empowering women who have been pushed to its margins by societal stigma.

Mentorship that transforms

Through mentorship, each woman is supported to identify her strengths, discover her potential, and share them where they are needed most.

Support where it's needed

Our work extends to disabled women, women seeking housing for substance abuse recovery, and those pursuing job placement and coaching.

Growth that sustains

Adult education helps women in rural and urban areas cultivate growth through farming arts, carving, weaving, preserving trees, and building sustainable ecosystems.

Our Founder

“Let your mistakes become your source of inspiration and purpose. Witness your life being fulfilled through your passion. Identify the right path, plan, and people to guide you in producing and sharing your purpose. Ultimately, discover the true meaning of peace.”

Mariama Suma-Keita was born in Sierra Leone's diamond country and trained as a nurse in Freetown. When civil war reached her final year of school, she cared for the wounded and escaped carrying trauma of her own. Finding the courage to seek help became her first act of mending.
